In the framework of the IX Summit of North American Leaders, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) asked the United States government for technological support to fulfill the commitment to guarantee the internet signal throughout Mexico.
During his morning press conference – broadcast from the National Palace – López Obrador explained that during his stay in Washington, DC, he held a meeting with the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, who agreed to carry out a special technological cooperation program throughout the country.
Therefore – the president pointed out – the US government is going to strengthen the space technology system.
“They (the US) are going to reinforce their entire space technology system with many resources and they are going to help us, they are going to give us an answer to what I asked them. It is not a matter of resources and budgets, it is more than anything, lack of technology, as incredible as it sounds, “said the Mexican president.
AMLO recalled that his government has the commitment to provide internet throughout the country, so that is why the deployment of fiber optics is so important”.
Finally, López Obrador asserted that his government of the Fourth Transformation will keep its promise to make the internet available to all areas of Mexico.
“We are going to do whatever it takes to support education, health, information in general, we will make sure that there are no monopolies, that the freedoms of speech, demonstration, expression, the right to information are guaranteed, ” AMLO concluded.
