The National Migration Institute (INM) reported that between January 1 and August 31, 2021, it identified 147 thousand 33 migrants who were transiting in an irregular condition through Mexican national territory, a figure that represents three times what was registered during the same period of 2020.
At the end of August last year, the number of foreigners identified for their irregular stay in Mexico amounted to 48,398.
The INM detailed that of the 147 thousand 33 foreign migrants located this year, 145 thousand 863 are originally from America and the rest of Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania, and among the nations of these last continents those from Bangladesh, Senegal, stand out. India, Russia, Ghana and Nepal, with more than 100 identified for each country.
The INM highlighted that on September 1, 1,118 irregular migrants were identified in 22 states of the country: 272 in Tabasco; 214, Chiapas; 114, Sonora; 105, Chihuahua; and 102, Tamaulipas, and in the others in a smaller proportion in the entities of Mexico City, Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, Jalisco, Puebla, Coahuila, Zacatecas, among others.
They came from 21 different countries: 438 from Honduras; 355, Guatemala; 70 Nicaragua; 70, El Salvador; 65, Haiti; 37, Ecuador; 25, Cuba; 14, Brazil; 14, Venezuela; 6, Colombia; 6, United States; 4, Chile; 4, Guyana; 3 Peru, and 1 of the nations of the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Belize, Panama, Bulgaria, France and Gabon.
By gender, of the 1,118 foreign migrants identified, 546 are men, 288 women and 284 minors (145 boys and 139 girls); Among the children, 255 were unaccompanied and only 29 were accompanied.
