Jalisco businessmen prepare suitcases for Qatar and Dubai

To facilitate business agreements between Jalisco companies and one of the markets with the greatest potential in the world, the Ministry of Economic Development (SEDECO) of the Government of Jalisco, together with the Chamber of the Food Industry of Jalisco (CIAJ) and to the Council of Industrial Chambers of Jalisco (CCIJ), they will undertake a trade mission to Doha, Qatar at the end of November.

In total, 22 Jalisco companies will attend, 14 of them supported directly with resources from the State Government, through SEDECO to cover costs of the tour and the remaining 8 with training and mentoring, to achieve direct agreements with Qatari buyers who allow them to market their products.

The commercial agenda of this tour, which will take place from November 19 to 27, will be in charge of the General Directorate of Foreign Trade of SEDECO, with which it will seek to give continuity to the previous work to open the market in the Middle East, that started on a previous mission to the United Arab Emirates. 

According to Claudia Villarruel, head of SEDECO’s Foreign Trade Directorate, this tour represents a great opportunity to place Jalisco’s exportable offer in Qatar, and stressed that it is the first of its kind to be held in Mexico. 

“The trade mission to Qatar is a very special trade mission because it is the largest and most ambitious we have carried out, it follows a positioning strategy in the United Arab Emirates. It was an important effort to prepare the companies, and that fills us with pride because it is a unique effort at the national level, no state in the republic has such a committed international commercial positioning agenda as Jalisco, “said Villarruel.

During the last 6 months, SEDECO has worked with the entrepreneurs who will attend this tour to prepare them, with workshops and trainings they have learned about the culture and the business possibilities that could be generated. 

In the workshops and mentoring designed for this tour, they were trained in labeling issues, so that the products carried comply with the label regulations for the target market; sales strategy, so that the businessmen who attend learn about aspects of the culture of the Middle East and know how to effectively target buyers; price, so that their costs include local taxes; and logistics, so that they can trace the most suitable route for their products, and determine if their transfer by sea or air, for example, is more viable.

In addition, during and after the tour they will also be given support to facilitate the export of products and services, capturing the areas of opportunity that exist in the Middle East to adapt to the needs of the commercial market. 

Currently, Qatar depends on 80 percent of the import of the products it consumes, being the food industry the one that occupies the second place with the largest import market, and Jalisco has a solid export sector, which contributed 3.9 percent to exports. entity totals during the second quarter of 2021.
