In the proposal for public spending, the amount allocated to the Mayan Train is increased by 68 percent, while for health the increase is only 27.6 percent
In the public spending proposal for 2022, the 68 percent increase in the spending forecasts proposed for the Mayan Train project stands out; however, Branch 12 Health only contemplates a budget increase of 27.6 percent.
According to the analysis note Policy of public spending in the federal government for the fiscal year 2022, carried out by the General Directorate of Finance of the Belisario Domínguez Institute of the Senate of the Republic, the 21 Tourism Branch presents the highest annual increase within the Power Executive, with a proposed expenditure forecast of 65 thousand 671 million pesos, of which 95.8 percent corresponds to the Mass Passenger Transportation Projects Program (Mayan Train).
The document states that since the beginning of this administration, the Mayan Train has been considered a “priority” project in terms of investment and is aimed at increasing the economic benefit of tourism in the Yucatan peninsula, since the project includes Campeche, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatán.
However, it points out that the spending forecasts in the main health and/or social security institutions imply an increase with respect to what was proven for 2021: Branch 12 Health, 27.6 percent; IMSS, 8.1 percent; and ISSSTE, 2.5 percent, despite the complex health and economic environment caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The analysis of the Senate indicates that in the case of Branch 12 Health, the annual increase in the proposed budget is driven by the higher forecasts made for the Vaccination Program, with a proposed budget 13.3 times greater than that approved in 2021.
