THE PROJECT THAT HAS DIVIDED OPINIONS AMONG THE LOCALS WAS BORN WITH THE PRI JAVIER DEGOLLADO, WAS CANCELED IN THE EMECIST ADMINISTRATION OF MOISÉS ANAYA AND THIS PAN ADMINISTRATION INTENDS TO “REVIVE” WITH SOME CHANGES

Ajijic, Lake Chapala, Jalisco- There are plans to reinstall the walkway on Morelos Street, in the heart of Ajijic, revealed the current Head of Dispatch of the delegation, Maximiliano “Max” Macías Arceo, and clarified that if carried out, this measure will not only benefit businesses but also passersby.

“This time, we plan for it to be a cultural walker and focus on local handicrafts, the businesses of (street) Morelos will work from their doorstep,” said the interviewee, who has said that he understands the rejection of a sector of the people, since, in the previous administration (2015-2018) there was a similar project, which benefited the businesses located throughout Morelos but not the local artisan or the passerby.

And it is that, since the last two weeks, since the beginning of the new administration led by the PAN leader Alejandro Aguirre, road agents have been in charge of preventing vehicles from parking on Morelos Street, from its intersection with Ocampo, which has raised suspicions about the return of the controversial Andador Cultural Axixic, which since its creation (during the administration of PRI member Javier Degollado) has raised conflicting opinions, since Morelos street was closed to vehicular traffic every weekend to make way for the sale of drinks, food, crafts and musical presentations in the street.

In the first two weeks of the government of the former mayor of Chapala, the emecist Moisés Anaya (2018-2021), the Andador disintegrated and the alleged seven itinerant merchants of the same were relocated next to the dock, in the Friendship Park in the Ajijic boardwalk. Now there are more than twenty street vendors that sell in the place.

When asked about 17 people about the return of the Axixic Cultural Walker, nine of them agreed, while another eight refused to have the central street closed again for the handicraft sales facility.

“They are only giving way to restaurants taking their suckling pig back to the streets little by little. They may say it is to support the local culture, but they said the same thing last time. It is good that they fix the street, but with the stall holder there, they are only going to cause road chaos, ”said Francisco, a young resident of Ajijic.

On the other hand, those who agreed assured that it could be a platform to boost the economy of local artists. “Cultural walker, like the one in the plaza, but exclusively for people from Ajijic, is what the town needs. Ajijic has many artists who should make themselves known on the main street, to those who come to visit the Magic Town, ”said Fany, who lives in the town.

“The walker is being planned and we have seen good feedback on this. It also seeks to fix the Morelos street from Colón, always taking the opinions of the people into account. Entering the year, the municipal president –Alejandro Aguirre- will take action on the matter regarding the project ”, commented Max, the current Head of Dispatch in the picturesque delegation.
