AMLO says it will not buy COVID vaccines for children

López Obrador assured that Mexico will not be held hostage by pharmaceutical companies, but that it will abide by what scientists and international organizations say about vaccination in children.

A judge from the State of Mexico ordered the Mexican Government to vaccinate against Covid-19 for children between the ages of 12 and 17.

A federal judge in the State of Mexico ordered this Tuesday that all children between 12 and 17 years of age be vaccinated against Covid-19, arguing that it is “the obligation of the Mexican State to safeguard the right to health.”

The judge who ordered the vaccination of minors was Claudia Gámez Galindo, secretary of the judge’s functions, who made the decision after suspending a minor who asked to be vaccinated under the general application with the argument of the “right to health universal”.

“The vaccine against this disease should be considered as one of the most cost-effective measures to control the pandemic, and reduce its impact on health, the economy and society,” said Judge Claudia Gámez Galindo.

Why has vaccination of minors been ordered in Mexico?

On October 7, the judge granted a definitive suspension to an Amparo trial to a minor under 15 years of age to be vaccinated against Covid-19, due to the high risk that the minor has of contracting the virus, however, The resolution ordered that all minors between the ages of 12 and 17 be considered for vaccination in Mexico.

“It is emphasized that the effects of this precautionary measure include not only the minor complainant but all those under the age of eighteen / with the aim of not generating an imbalance in the operation and strategy in the ‘National Policy of vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, for the prevention of covid in Mexico ”, argued the judge.
