The National Gas Association will also hold a peaceful demonstration outside the Ministry of Energy that will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Through a statement, the National Gas Union reported that they will carry out an indefinite work stoppage starting at 2:00 p.m. this Monday, as they assured that the federal government has not given forceful answers to their demands.

Likewise, the presence of gas carriers was requested to carry out a peaceful demonstration outside the Ministry of Energy ( Sener ) that will begin at 1:00 p.m.

The union’s spokesman, Enrique Medrano, pointed out that this week the payment of commissions fell to 50 cents per liter sold, so they are in a complex situation since the commission agents are not obtaining profits that allow them to continue operating.”The National Gas Association requests each zone coordinator to support us with the indefinite work stoppage starting at 2:00 p.m., and request the units of each mayor’s office to stop on main avenues, without obstructing the roads, waiting for the response from the authorities “The National Gas Union reported that they will carry out an indefinite work stoppage starting at 2:00 p.m. this Monday. Despite the fact that a couple of weeks ago the National Gas Association met with representatives of the Sener, the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), and Petróleos Mexicanos ( Pemex ) to reach agreements and solutions for the commission agents, they have not obtained the expected results.

The foregoing, in the context that before the emergency directive was issued by the CRE and the Sener, the commission agents earned between 3 and 4 pesos per liter sold, however, since the maximum prices were implemented, their profits have been affected, in a reduction of up to 20 cents of commission per liter.

It is estimated that both the capital of the country and the metropolitan area will suspend the activities of around 10,000 workers, including pipe drivers, carburizing station employees, and managers.

Likewise, they will add to the gas strikes in Oaxaca, Veracruz, Hidalgo, and Puebla, so there could be effects on the supply of fuel.

It was thus that from the early hours of this Monday, hundreds of residents of the capital were prevented and went to the different LP gas distribution centers to fill their tanks.

The last strike they called lasted 24 hours and a meeting with the authorities was required to review the reduction in commissions for the price cap.

Since then, the leader of LP Gas distributors, José Adrián Rodríguez asked the government to guarantee security in the development of their activity.

Why have the gas companies called for two stoppages of activities?

The conflict began after a decree was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) that grants the CRE the power to establish maximum prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LP).

Said measure, states the document, “in order to  protect the interests of end-users.”

“The Energy Regulatory Commission Agreement is issued that establishes the regulation of maximum prices of liquefied petroleum gas for sale to the end-user, in compliance with the Emergency Directive for the welfare of the Consumer of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, issued by the Ministry of Energy, in order to protect the interests of end-users, which will have the same validity as the aforementioned Directive ”, refers the publication of the DOF. In this sense, the CRG was urged to create a  methodology to determine these prices. “At a cost that provides for the development of the industry and guarantees the preservation of democracy based on the  economic, social and political development of the country and its inhabitants, which will last for six months.”

The LP gas price table will be updated every Saturday and will come into effect on the Sunday following its publication, that is, it will be valid for one week. In addition,  the 145 price regions established by the Ministry of Economy (SE) will be taken into account.
