The Government of Mexico presented on Saturday, October 9th, a Plan of Support projected for three years for the western state of Michoacán, focused on the areas of security, health, education, and welfare; in the midst of the scourge of organized crime.
“Michoacán is part of national history and that is why we must help it,” said Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who led the meeting where his cabinet officials detailed the plan with the actions to continue in the state between 2021 and 2024.
Luis Cresencio Sandoval, Secretary of National Defense, affirmed that organized crime has kidnapped various municipalities of the state, and in response to this he announced that there will be a greater military presence and National Guard barracks will be installed.
He assured that currently more than 2,000 members of the Army are deployed to reinforce security and with this, the retreat of one of the criminal groups of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) was achieved on the State line with Jalisco.
For more than a decade, Mexico has been going through a wave of violence led by clashes between drug cartels and the authorities, and Michoacan is one of the most affected states by this situation.
The bloody confrontations between criminal groups such as the CJNG and La Nueva Familia Michoacana (LNFM,) with bullets, grenades, and explosives detonated with drones, have caused since December 2020 a serious humanitarian crisis in the Michoacan municipality of Aguililla, which has caused an exodus of thousands of inhabitants.
