Andrés Aguilar Becerril, in charge of the office of the Secretary of Tourism in the State, said that there is a good outlook for the immediate future in Quintana Roo, which has set the standard, nationally and internationally, and according to the indicators they will close 2021 with more than 12 million visitors.

These numbers, he added, will mean a recovery between 75 and 80 percent, compared to 2019, which is very positive.

“Since the end of 2020, a recovery was seen when closing with a difference of 47% with respect to 2019, and now we are going to be down by 20%, after a fall in the world of more than 70%, which means that the Mexican Caribbean is well prepared, thanks to the efforts of the private initiative, its collaborators and the local authorities ”, he highlighted.

The official said that air connections were key, even now there are more flights with the main destinations in the world, and that set the tone in the current season, because for example, in this summer, just over three million arrived. tourists, which represents a difference of 20% compared to the same season in 2019.

“We strengthened connectivity since our destination is connected to more than 80 cities around the world and every month we have announcements of more flights. For the next October 31 we have the return of Turkish Airlines, from the first of November there will be a daily connection from Frankfurt, Germany, and a few weeks ago the direct flight Sao Paulo-Cancun was announced ”, he indicated.

He also highlighted the good work being done by the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, which has positioned the destinations of the Mexican Caribbean, as well as with the Ministry of Health, business groups, and citizens on the importance of taking care of health protocols, as it generates trust among visitors.

“Taking care of health measures helped us to have an orderly, gradual and responsible recovery, and to have been one of the first destinations in the world to reopen its doors to tourism.

“Once the tourist activity was decreed as essential for the state, it already brought a series of requirements, protocols, and certification processes, which without them this return and recovery of the activity would not have been possible,” he added.

“From the beginning, the private initiative showed special interest and complete responsibility in the health issue, and this was recognized internationally through the Safe Travels seal of the WTTC,” he added and called not to lower his guard.
