The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, met on September 24 in New York with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Chung Eui-yong, with whom he agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
At the meeting, held within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, the foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening the Strategic Partnership for Mutual Prosperity, established in 2005.
“On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, both governments will carry out various commemorative activities next year,” the Foreign Ministry reported in a statement.
Both officials pledged to address the structural causes of migration from Central America, for which they expressed their support for the ongoing consultations to strengthen triangular cooperation for development in support of the “Sembrando Vida” program in that region.
n economic matters, they highlighted the growth in trade and investment in recent years and endorsed the commitment of both governments to promote this positive trend.
“They also highlighted the bilateral collaboration against COVID-19 and agreed to promote cooperation for the bilateral trade of medicines,” the statement said.
Korea is Mexico’s fourth-largest trading partner in the world and the second most important in the Asia-Pacific region.
