Mexico recovers letter from Hernán Cortés and historical documents from the 16th century

The Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, reported on his social networks that Mexico recovered historical documents from the 16th century, including a letter from Hernán Cortés.

They were recovered by the New York Attorney General’s office and Home Land Investigations, ”explained the Chancellor.

This afternoon, Ebrard received a set of 16 manuscripts by Hernán Cortés and other 16th century characters, as well as pre-Hispanic pieces that were recovered from auction houses by the North American authorities and delivered into custody to the Mexican consulate in New York to later be transferred to Mexico City.

During his visit to the so-called Big Apple, as part of his presence at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the official thanked the New York Attorney General’s office and Home Land Investigations, who carried out this job.

In his social media accounts, the chancellor showed the letter from Hernán Cortés dating from 1529 and other manuscripts from the time when our country was considered New Spain.

In addition to the manuscripts, some pieces from the pre-Columbian era stand out that were also about to be auctioned by private collectors and that are considered patrimony of Mexico.

At this time, Ebrard is holding a meeting with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken (17:45 to 18-45 NY) and later he will participate in the UN General Assembly.
