After citizen petitions, Yucatan Governor eliminates ‘curfew’ from Sunday to Wednesday

Mérida, Yucatán.- After requests from citizens and also from the business sector for a couple of months, it was announced that the vehicle curfew restriction, established to prevent coronavirus contagion (COVID-19), will be eliminated on Sundays through Wednesdays.

Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal has authorized the elimination of the road restriction on some days in Yucatecan territory since up to now, not a single car was allowed to circulate after 11:30 at night.

Starting Monday, September 20, the restriction on nighttime vehicular mobility from Sunday to Wednesday will be eliminated.
However, the State Government has announced that from Thursday to Saturday the traffic restriction will be maintained from 11:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day.

With the elimination of the road restriction, it will be possible that some establishments such as restaurants, casinos, shopping malls and other types of businesses will be able to work from the usual time until 24:00 hours from Sunday to Wednesday.

Likewise, the state’s sports facilities will be opened gradually.

On the other hand, it was reported today that 260 new cases of Coronavirus were detected in Merida, Valladolid, Kanasin, Progreso, Uman, Tekax, Tizimin, Tzucacab, Temozon, Ticul, Tixpeual, Conkal, Motul, Peto, Sinanche and Tetiz. In total, since a year and a half ago, 66,978 people in Yucatan have tested positive for COVID-19.
