According to the statement issued by the Ahau Hotel, owned by Roberto Palazuelos, the sculpture will be installed elsewhere.

Roberto Palazuelos and the Hotel Ahau decided to close the sculpture “Ven a la Luz” by Daniel Popper to the public. The iconic figure, one of the most instagrammable in Mexico, will be moved to a new site that will house a larger collection.

The monumental work is 10 meters high and is made of steel, wood, rope, and vegetation. It symbolizes the deep connection of people and nature.

Originally, Popper created it to be installed at the entrance to the Art With Me 2018 festival. Its mission is and has been to awaken the interest of visitors in the Tulum ecosystem.

Later, in 2019, the piece was transferred to the entrance of the Ahau Hotel, where it will remain for a few more days, waiting to be dismantled and erected again in a safe place.

Hurricane Grace

Remembering that on August 19, 2021, Hurricane Grace hit the shores of the Mexican Caribbean, leaving multiple effects, including the already emblematic wooden sculpture that adorns the entrance of the hotel, in Tulum.

Here is the statement:

Dear friends and family of Ahau,

Starting the following week, our sculpture Come to Light by Daniel Popper will be closed to the public while it is moved to a new location.

We will be positioning it as the centerpiece of the new Ahau Tulum Sculpture Park, with new art additions, its own entrance, and separate food and beverage concessions.

We look forward to sharing this experience with you in October.

See you very soon.
