Mexico.- After being for almost 24 hours as tropical depression “Quince-E” , on the morning of this Wednesday, August 8, the tropical storm “Olaf” was activated in the Pacific Ocean, the fifteenth of the season, confirmed the National Meteorological Service

The climate agency indicates that the center of the storm is located off the coast of Jalisco and its cloud bands cause rain, strong winds and high waves in Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán

The distance to the closest place of “Olaf ” is 255 km southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Jal., And 510 km south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, BCS and moves at 11 km / h to the northwest with sustained winds from 65 km / h and gusts of 85 km / h. 

This system maintains a surveillance zone due to tropical storm effects from Los Barriles to Santa Fe, BCS and the rain forecast is very heavy with intense punctual rains (75 to 150 mm) in Nayarit and Jalisco; heavy rains with very strong occasional rains (50 to 75 mm) in Michoacán; and intervals of showers with strong punctual rains (25 to 50 mm) in Baja California Sur, Sinaloa and Colima.

Wind gusts of 60 to 70 km / h and waves of 2 to 4 meters of significant height are forecast in the coasts of Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán and Baja California Sur.

In the current forecast, the SMN ruled out that “Olaf” assumes the category of hurricane one contrary to previous ones, and marks the most noticeable approach towards the night of September 9 when it is 140 km south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, BCS., And 275 km south of La Paz, BCS.

The recommendation is to take extreme precautions to the general population in the areas of the states mentioned due to rain, wind and waves (including maritime navigation) and to comply with the recommendations issued by the authorities of the National Civil Protection System, in each entity.
