On Wednesday night the Government of Oaxaca, through the Secretariat of Administration, turned on the traditional decorative lighting in the first square of the city on the occasion of September 15, to mark the beginning of the celebration of the national holidays of this year.

More than 4,300 LED technology lights will be lighting the zócalo, Manuel García Vigil street and the Tourist Walkway. The green, white and red colors, as well as decorations alluding to the dates, stand out in the distance to spread the patriotic spirit for the 211 anniversary of the beginning of the Independence of Mexico.

Since last week, workers of the Department of Administration Special Events began with the design and assembly of the decoration with saving light bulbs, connected in two kilometers of cable, which will reduce electricity consumption by 85% compared to previous years.

The tricolor lighting will shine throughout the month of September starting at 7 in the afternoon, as it has been done in more than 30 years, going back to the beginning of the war to achieve the emancipation of the country.

The person in charge of the Department of Special Events, Miguel Ángel Ortiz, explained that in 2021 the Government of Oaxaca implemented the saving of electrical energy with the decoration of one-watt bulbs to lower energy consumption to only 2,100 watts, an action that is environmentally friendly.

He stressed that lighting preserves the national fervor in this health contingency, for which he invited those who walk along these roads to enjoy the beautification with the colors of the Mexican flag while continuing to follow sanitary measures. “It is something very beautiful that they will appreciate,” he reinforced

After the lights were turned on, Oaxacan families and visitors showed their appreciation for the decoration, as was the case with Don Antonio, who assured that it is very nice to see the colors of the Grito de Independencia.
