The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has more faithful than the Jewish community in Mexico, however, there is a certain mysticism surrounding its customs.

In 1875, the Tuxtepec Revolution was brewing within the country, when Porfirio Díaz, being a presidential candidate, with the support of various military personnel and with the backing of the Catholic Church, which had been affected by the measures of Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada, began a series of public demonstrations that would lead him to start the last war of the 19th century in Mexico.

In the middle of a country touched by the violence left by the war, in 1875, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints arrived in Mexico. In almost a century and a half of existence in the country, they have added a large number of parishioners, currently, one million 480 thousand 757 Mexicans openly declare themselves followers of this faith, which places them above the 58 thousand 876 thousand Mexicans who are part of the entire Jewish community reported in the 2020 Population and Housing Census.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”, or as they are commonly known “the Mormon church” is one of the religions that causes the most interest among laity and non-believers, as there are many topics that were taboo and that now live in the memory of some and in the imaginary collective.

The Book of Mormon is the main book Mormons are governed by

This almost a million and a half Mexicans follow a series of rules that seem somewhat strange for the society of the 21st century. Among some of the regulations and prohibitions that stand out in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are not drinking alcohol or hot drinks and even the way of being romantically involved.

These faithful who want to leave behind the nickname of “Mormons” and have asked to be called faithful to the Church by its full name: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

But where did the nickname “Mormon” come from? From a scripture proper to that religious order, called the Book of Mormon, the term was coined by outsiders and is used to describe the Church and its members. In the past, the same followers adopted and used the nickname.

One of the dogmas of faith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the one referring to death because for them that is not the end of life: This Church believes that “everyone will be resurrected” ensuring that there is life after death, and in doing so “they will once again have a perfect body of flesh and blood, free from pain, disease, and imperfections.”

What are your love relationships like in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Young people who profess this religion are taught that they should wait until they are sixteen to start dating young people of the opposite sex, and they should do so only with people who have high moral standards.

Many of the Mormons have a righteous life as it is established by religion

Teenagers on a date are responsible for helping each other uphold the standards set by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and for mutually protecting their honor and virtue.

In the past, the founders could have many wives, however that topic was forgotten, polygamy was prohibited in 1890, and since then, if any of the members of the church is caught practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated.

Until death do us part? No! For them, marriage is designed to last forever. In the marriage ceremony, the phrase “Until death do you part” is not said, on the contrary, the words “for time and for all eternity” are mentioned, that is to say, that marriage is thought of as an eternal act.

What things are prohibited in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Although body art is increasingly accepted, if you belong to this religion you cannot have any type of tattoo. If a new member has tattoos or piercings, they are encouraged to remove them using laser procedures to make their body “clean again.”

Members of the Church do not consume hot beverages such as coffee and tea. In addition, they have chosen not to drink alcohol or smoke, or any type of drugs, because they have a health code that urges them to take care of their body.

However, Mormons have many rules to follow

Regardless of these norms and rules, this religion is known for its strategies of social responsibility, since it puts the welfare of the communities first; where one of its most important pillars is found is social work, for example, during confinement due to covid-19, its congregation donated 7 million 500 thousand pesos of food to the network of the Food Bank of Mexico.

In addition, the community made an in-kind donation of more than 6 million pesos to the Health Institute for Wellbeing (Insabi), where protective equipment was delivered for health personnel who are fighting on the front line against covid -19.

In addition to being great promoters of free education for entrepreneurs, students and people with a desire to learn languages in Mexico, it is because of them that they have created various teaching platforms, such as English Conect, which anyone can access without having to be part of the Mormon community.
