Mexico’s participation in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games ended with a total of 22 medals (7 gold, 2 silver, and 13 bronze), surpassing its record of medals obtained in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 games.

According to the Mexican Paralympic Committee, our country exceeded 300 total medals in its Paralympic history.

Five years ago, in Rio 2016, Mexico got 15 medals (4 golds, 2 silver, and 9 bronze), being the poorest edition in terms of results since Atlanta ’96, when it added 12.

Five years ago, in Rio 2016, the Mexican delegation achieved a total of 15 medals (4 golds, 2 silver, and 9 bronze). One of the objectives of the Mexican Paralympic Committee was to exceed 15, which the delegation achieved in Tokyo 2020.

What has been the best performance of Mexico in the history of the Paralympic Games?

The best performance of Mexico in a Paralympic Games edition was 41 years ago in the Arnhem 1980 edition in the Netherlands by winning 42 medals (20 gold, 16 silver, and six bronze).

Four years earlier in Toronto 1976, Mexico obtained 16 gold, 14 silver, and nine bronze for a total of 39.

This performance is followed by Athens 2004, where the Mexican Delegation won 14 gold, 10 silver, and 10 bronze for a total of 34; Sydney 2000 with 10 gold, 12 silver, and 12 bronze to add 34; and Beijing 2008 with 10 gold, three silver, and seven bronze, 20 in total.

It is worth mentioning that in the Paralympics in New York and Stoke Mandeville in 1984, Mexico managed to win a total of 37 medals, of which six were gold, 14 silver, and 17 bronze, while four years later in Seoul 1988 there were 24 medals: eight gold, nine silver, and seven bronze.
