The number of COVID-19 cases in Mexico rose to 3,231,616 this Monday, August 23, after the Ministry of Health notified 6,543 new infections. It also reported 228 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from SARS-CoV-2 to 253,526.

However, the federal agency also pointed out that epidemiological week 32, which spans from August 8 to 14, registered a decrease of 11% in the number of estimated cases compared to the previous week, which according to the undersecretary of health, Hugo López-Gatell add three weeks of reduction of the epidemic.

So far 126,739 active cases are considered, which represent 3.7% of the total since the beginning of the pandemic and which are the people who have presented symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 14 days (August 10 to 23, 2021), therefore that if they do not comply with all sanitary measures, they could potentially contribute to the transmission of the virus.

In this sense, according to the daily technical report of the health agency, Colima, Mexico City, Tabasco, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Nuevo León, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Baja California Sur and Querétaro are the entities that, in descending order, have the highest rate of active cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Likewise, since March 2020, the total number of infections by place of residence has been registered. These are the 10 entities that concentrate the highest number of accumulated infections, with 66% of the total registered until this Monday, August 23: Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Nuevo León, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Tabasco, Puebla, Veracruz, Sonora and San Luis Potosí.

Likewise, the SSa reported that the distribution by sex of the confirmed cases shows an equal predominance in men and women, since each group has a percentage of 50 to 50 and the average age of the confirmed cases is 40 years.

With these records, Mexico remains the fourth country in the world with the most deaths from COVID-19, behind the United States, Brazil and India, and is sixteenth in number of confirmed infections, according to the Johns Hopkins University count.

Regarding hospital availability, in the last 24 hours there was a 2% decrease in hospital occupancy of beds with mechanical ventilators to 46%, while in general use beds it remained unchanged and stood at 54%.

According to the new colors of the epidemiological traffic light that came into effect from this Monday and will be in force until next September 5, seven states remain in red (maximum risk of contagion): Colima, Guerrero, Puebla, Hidalgo, Tabasco, Tamaulipas and Nuevo León.

On the contrary, in the color “ green ” (low risk) there is only Chiapas, which has been maintained that way practically all of 2021.

In “ orange ” (high risk), 17 entities, two more than the last update: Sonora, Durango, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, Nayarit, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Michoacán, Querétaro, Mexico City, State of Mexico, Morelos, Tlaxcala , Veracruz, Oaxaca, Campeche and Quintana Roo.

While in ” yellow ” or moderate risk, seven states: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Sinaloa, Guanajuato and Yucatán.

By federal entity, the City of Mexico, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Baja California and Querétaro reach vaccination coverage of 80% to 92%; Zacatecas, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Colima, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Hidalgo, Yucatán, Sonora and San Luis Potosí report coverage of 70% to 79%.
