At a press conference, the head of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Octavio Romero Oropeza reported that at least five people died, six were injured and two are missing after the incident on the Pemex platform.
Among the deceased, one was a Pemex worker and four from the Cotemar company. Regarding the missing two, he said they are employees of the company Bufete de Monitoreo de Conditions y Integridad (BMCI) and that Pemex continues with the search of those missing.
Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has reported that the fire Sunday afternoon on a marine platform located in the Gulf of Mexico has left one person dead, six wounded and five missing persons.
The company reported that it continues with the “exhaustive search for the missing personnel” and that it will carry out an investigation to determine the root cause and origin of the fire.
In a statement, Pemex reported that on Sunday at 3:10 p.m., a fire broke out on the E-Ku-A2 platform of the Ku-A Processing Center in the Gulf of Mexico off Campeche. The platform is part of its largest producer complex, Ku Maloob Zaap (KMZ).
They said that valves were closed and monitoring carried out while they waited for the remainder to be consumed. Similarly, the Emergency Plan was activated and that by 4:30 p.m., the fire was controlled.
Pemex says they will carry out a root cause investigation to determine the origin of the fire. The state owned company also noted that the platform workers belonged to Pemex as well as two private companies.
“Pemex expresses its sincere condolences to the relatives of the deceased person and provides support to the workers affected by this incident as well as their families,” the statement said.
In early July, three water vessels were sent to a Pemex platform in the Gulf of Mexico after a valve burst causing a massive fire. The fire was registered about 150 meters from the Ku-Charly platform within the Ku Maloob Zaap Integral Production Asset.
