Semarnat gave the go-ahead for the work that will have lounge chairs, umbrellas, and a rustic dock.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) authorized the construction of a new marina in the vicinity of Playa Langosta in Cancun.

According to the Environmental Impact Statement, presented by the promoter CI Banco, the infrastructure will be built on the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), with a rustic 100-meter long dock.

The site will have a bar, hut, and beach furniture, 274 lounge chairs, and 137 umbrellas, for the exclusive use of the guests of the Breathless Cancun hotel.

The Navy will make use of the Federal Zone concession with number DGZF-337/16, modified by resolution 3217/2018 of October 10, 2018.

Likewise, the “preventive” filling with sand is foreseen.

“From studies of coastal hydrodynamics, it has been established as a site prone to coastal loss due to the action of waves, tides and winds, which generate a coastal transport that favors the accumulation of sediment towards the surrounding areas”,

For this reason, he says, Semarnat authorized the filling of the beach in front of Block C-3 in order to recover and protect private property.

Among the benefits of the work, he assures, is the improvement of quality, reliability, and recreational services on the beach, such as admiring the landscape from the pier, water activities, recreational services at the beach bar, and so on.

The area where the pier is to be built is covered with seagrass. However, they allege that the other two piers in the area are in similar condition.

Ci Banco proposed to Semarnat to transfer this seagrass to other areas with similar conditions.

The works authorization was granted to complete the works in two years from the date of publication.

The Langosta beach area is frequented mainly by locals from Cancun.
