The Brazilian company Embratel announced the launch of its new satellite with which it seeks to ensure coverage capacity and quality in Brazil and Latin America.
The Star One D2, built by Maxar and launched by Arianespace, is equipped with C, Ku, Ka and X bands, so it has the capabilities to cope with the demands of pay television, business connectivity, cell phone, and mobile phones aand Internet.
Claro’s president in Brazil, José Félix, commented: “We are very happy with the successful launch of the Star One D2, the largest satellite in our fleet, with which we will reinforce our market leadership, providing more resources and capacity for the telecommunications of Brazil and Latin America ”.
How is the Star One D2
This satellite that has a power of 19.3 KW and has a weight of 7 tons, is equipped with 28 transponders in Band C, 24 in Ku Band and payloads in Band Ka and Band X; and it comes to complement the fleet that already had five more satellites in geostationary orbit.
Through this new launch, the company seeks to expand the operation with clients in the region, as it increases the capacity for data transmission and cellular telephony, helping in the expansion of mobile services, said José Formoso, CEO of Embratel.
While with the Ka band, they will meet the demands of cell phone coverage and will be complemented with the Star One D1, with the C and KU bands they will focus on data, video and internet offers for government bodies and companies in Mexico. Central and South America, as well as expanding existing cellular networks. In addition, the Ku band can be used to migrate video signals and it will be possible to attend the implementation of 5G in Brazil in the future.
Also, with the C band, the maintenance and distribution of signals will be guaranteed in order to increase the content offer of large TV stations.
The company, which already has satellite services with the largest companies in Brazil and Latin America, such as TV stations, channels, banks and other companies, will be able to expand its offer to entertainment, telemedicine, tele-education and agribusiness applications.
The commercial operation phase of this satellite will begin from October 2021, but the services can already be contracted. and it will be controlled from one of the largest satellite operations centers in Brazil and Latin America, located in Guaratiba, Rio de Janeiro.
