The calculation of the citizen consultation on Sunday has not yet been completed and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is already thinking about the next exercise of this type: the revocation of the mandate.
“In March of next year, in eight months, another consultation will come, and many more citizens will participate because people will be asked if they want the president to continue or to resign, which is known as the revocation of the mandate. because the people, I insist, is the sovereign, it is the one who puts, it is the one who takes away, it is the one who commands, “he said this Monday at his press conference from Puerto Vallarta.
Quoting the president, “we do not have to advance vespers”, and this process is not automatic as it seems to imply: for the consultation to take place, someone has to make the request. If this does not occur, there will be no process for the revocation of the mandate.
The request must meet a number of conditions. If all these are approved, the process would be carried out as commented by the president, in March 2022 .
But what are the requirements?
-Unlike the consultation on Sunday, the revocation of the mandate can only be requested by the citizens.
-The request must have the signature of 3 percent of the nominal list of the National Electoral Institute (INE) at that time.
-The nominal list is made up of 93 million 597 thousand 559 people, so that 3 percent would be equivalent to 2 million 807 thousand 926 voters.
-The law establishes that the requirement of 3 percent of the nominal list of voters must be fulfilled in 17 of the 32 states of the country.
-The revocation of the mandate may be requested during the three months following the end of the third year of the President’s Government, which, in this case, would be from December 2021 to February 2022.
-This resource can only be requested once.
-Citizens who seek to activate the resource will be able to collect signatures during the month prior to the date set in the opinion. That is, they will not have to wait until December 2021 to search for almost 3 million signatures.
The process will be organized in its entirety by the National Electoral Institute. To be valid, a minimum of 40 percent of the participation of the register is required.
