Street vendors with disabilities demand that the Mayor of Oaxaca allow them back

Although they affirm that they paid 1,400 pesos for eight permits, inspectors told them that they are not valid.

Oaxaca de Juárez.- Merchants living with disabilities marched this Tuesday from the atrium of the Santo Domingo de Guzmán Temple to the capital’s city hall, to demand from the municipal authorities permits to carry out commercial activities in the first square of the city, which since last week remains cordoned off by policemen. 

They stated that some of them have permits, but when presenting them, inspectors indicated that they are not valid, despite the fact that they affirm that they paid 1,400 pesos for eight permits that are not taken into account today.

Given this, they reiterated that the mayor, Oswaldo García Jarquín (Morena), must respect the agreements to allow them to sell, since they do not settle in stalls, but move through public roads to carry out their commercial activities.

Last weekend, the municipal president flatly denied that the operation obeys the interests of a film production company that would film in the city, and said that the operation is due to the arbitrariness that the business leaders have incurred. , settling in the first square of the city, without permission.

However, in social networks, the city council was criticized for allowing the installation of street vendors in the zócalo, to which the mayor responded that these are groups that have pending conflicts with the state government, in response, Governor Alejandro Murat has responded on several occasions that the street vendor in the capital is under municipal jurisdiction. 

Meanwhile, the merchants called the authorities to dialogue and blocked the streets of Crespo and Tinoco Y Palacios.
