Cancun, Fresnillo, and Ecatepec are the most dangerous cities in Mexico

The latest National Urban Public Safety Survey showed that 3 out of 10 Mexicans were victims of robbery or extortion.

Cancun, Fresnillo, Ecatepec de Morelos, Coatzacoalcos, Naucalpan de Juárez, and Tonalá are the six most dangerous cities to live in Mexico, according to the National Urban Public Safety Survey report.

The exercise, carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), showed that 66.6 percent of the 18-year-old population considers that living in their city is unsafe.

Of all the cities, the highest percentage of insecurity was presented by Fresnillo, in Zacatecas, where 96.2 percent of those interviewed considered that living there is a risk.

They were followed by Cancún (88.7 percent); Ecatepec de Morelos (87.7 percent); Coatzacoalcos (86.9 percent); Naucalpan de Juárez (86.7 percent), and Tonalá, Jalisco (86.1 percent).

On the contrary, the cities with the least perception of insecurity were San Pedro Garza García, in Nuevo León; Tampico, in Tamaulipas, and Los Cabos, in Baja California Sur.

Almost 3 out of 10 Mexicans surveyed by Inegi claimed to have been victims of robbery or extortion in the first half of this year, while 46.8 percent said they had suffered an act of corruption by some authority.

Regarding sexual violence, Inegi reported that 16.6 percent of the Mexican men and women interviewed said they were victims of harassment. In the case of women, the percentage (24.7 percent) was three times higher than that seen in men (6.9 percent).
