After 10 years, the mountains of “El Sarnoso and “La India” are now considered as protected natural areas, with which it is achieved that Durango triples the amount of area that is protected by the authority, this was announced by the deputy of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), Gerardo Villarreal Solís.

And it is that with 23 votes in favor, zero against, and without abstentions, said opinion was approved because “it took 10 years for the Laguna Region to have this protected natural area,” said the deputy, who also noted which is an achievement obtained after much dialogue with the mayors of Gómez Palacio, Mapimí and Lerdo, as well as many hours of work by researchers, specialists and the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the State of Durango.

In the same way, the Legislator expressed that this new status that the mountains of “El Sarnoso” and “La India” take, does not mean that they will be closed or the passage of visitors will be prohibited, but that it comes to generate the necessary protection so that the territory maintain its animal, plant and mineral wealth.

The aforementioned area has more than 45 thousand hectares and is added to the protected natural area of ​​the Guadiana and Sahuatoba parks, which were also promoted as natural areas by the Ecology Commission headed by Gerardo Villarreal.

It should be noted that this space covers three lagoon municipalities, so that, when the decree was approved, Durango tripled the number of protected natural areas in its territory, “this decree will facilitate a management attached to sustainability for the biodiversity that exists there and can continue providing benefits to current and future generations ”, explained the Local Deputy.
