Since March, the search for Mexican destinations and reservations has grown more than 300% compared to the same period in 2020; they are attracted to magical towns.

As the vaccination campaign in Mexico progresses, with approximately 32% of the population immunized at the moment, road tourism begins to gain more strength, especially that focused on visiting the 132 magical towns in the country.

“With regard to the search on the Visit México platform and social media engagement, today there is growing participation and interest in national tourism; especially in road tourism to go to visit the magical towns, to know destinations with short flights, meaning less than three hours. As the vaccination progresses, practically national tourism begins to take vacations today, ”explained Carlos González, general director of Visit México.

As of March 7, 2021, the search or reservations in Mexican destinations grew more than 300% compared to the same period of 2020, according to Sojern, a platform that collects data on reservations and tourist searches worldwide.

“The traveler is regaining confidence and with this, we are going to see a very positive economic recovery, in 2022 it will have to be consolidated and there will be a broad consolidation in reservations and searches that indicate that the situation is about to improve,” added González.

The manager emphasized that national tourism, in terms of economic benefit, represents about 80% and international, 20%; of the latter, 80% comes from the United States, which is why Visit Mexico will open a promotion office in New York, which it describes as “the big bet”.

“We know that destinations such as Cancun, Tulum, Bacalar, Riviera Maya, Cabo, Riviera Nayarit, and Puerto Vallarta are the dominant sun and beach destinations and in which we generate content and messages for the tourist offer. However, we are also very focused on creating content for magical towns and colonial cities, “he said.

Likewise, González explained that despite the fact that since the start of the current Visit México contract there has been no budget from the federal government, a “good job” has been done to promote tourism in the country, hand in hand with a program of 100% private investment together with brands.

“The federal government does not have or had contemplated the investment, but we can add investments from the states and it is from the federal government. We have the support because we work hand in hand with the Federal Ministry of Tourism, they govern the country’s tourism policy and although we (are) in the digital aspect and in the tourism promotion plan, we have incursions in different media, countries, and others there is a joint work and we walk on many issues hand in hand “, explained the director of Visit México.
