Isla Coronado is one of the most spectacular places in Baja. If you are a lover of adventure and the unknown, this is your place.

One of the most spectacular islands in the  Sea of Cortez is Isla Coronado. Here you will find fantastic landscapes, endemic fauna, and beautiful white-sand beaches. It is one of the five islands that make up the Bahía de Loreto National Park in Baja California Sur.

This natural wonder was declared a National Park on July 19, 1966, and in 2005 it was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The other islands that make it up in addition to Isla Coronado are Isla del Carmen, Danzante, Monserrat, and Santa Catalina.

Isla Coronado Features

The climate is dry semi-arid with little rainfall in summer and average temperatures of 23 ° C. The flora is very abundant, mainly composed of copal, biznagas, red and white mangrove, palo verde, mesquite, sour pitaya, and sweet mangrove.

The diversity of its fauna is immense. There are many types of mice, including the endemic Coronado Island canyon mouse  ( Peromyscus pseudocrinitus ). Among the birds, you will find hawks, pigeons, Mexican finches, woodpeckers, bats, buzzards, blue-footed boobies, frigates, and many more.

Its marine fauna is dominated by several species of sharks and turtles, sea lions, killer whales, dolphins, gray whales, humpbacks and the surprising blue whale, which is the largest in the world. The best time of sighting for the latter is during its migration time, that is, from February to March.
