President López Obrador emphasized the importance of the reopening of the common border, closed since March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador met this Monday at the National Palace with five US senators, from the Democratic and Republican parties, as well as the charge d’affaires of the embassy of that country in Mexico, John Creamer.
Through a message on his Twitter account, the president announced that he met with Democratic Senators Tim Kaine and Ben Ray Luján, as well as Republicans Rob Portman, John Hoeven and Mike Crapo.
“We treat, with freedom and frankness, issues of interest to our peoples and nations,” he said in the message posted on the social network.
On the Mexican side, the Secretary of Foreign Relations (SRE), Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, the Secretary of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, the Mexican Ambassador in Washington, Esteban Moctezuma, and the Director of North America of the Foreign Ministry, Roberto Velasco participated. .
According to a statement from the Presidency, one of the issues addressed was the reopening of the border between the two countries, which has been closed since March 20, 2020 due to the health contingency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
