The state of Querétaro has consolidated more than 200 wine labels

The wine sector has grown since the nineties in an accelerated way, to date there are already 40 formal winemaking projects in the state, announced the president of the Association of Winemakers of the state of Querétaro Mariano Velten.

In an interview, he said that the state of Queretaro exports to more than 15 countries and that it produces 3 million bottles a year, half of which are distributed outside the country.

Despite the pandemic and the unemployment of some sectors, the wine sector did not stop its production and currently total more than 500 hectares raised.

The state of Querétaro has consolidated more than 200 wine labels that are produced in seven municipalities of the entity; Huimilpan, El Marqués, Colón, San Juan del Río, Tequisquiapan, Ezequiel Montes and Cadereyta.

He also commented that the climate and the location of the state favor the production of red grapes for merlot, syrah, malbec, tempranillo, as well as white grapes in which macabeo, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc wines stand out.

Mariano Velten stressed that over the years, the association has managed to maintain the union between the producers of the state, adding value to the productive chain and consolidating itself as the engine that maintains the dynamism of the wine sector.

Finally, he highlighted that among the objectives of the association are the promotion and encouragement of the culture and consumption of Queretaro wine at a national and international level, as well as guiding the associates towards the best winemaking practices, both in the field and in the production of table wines.
