A tragic landslide occured on a hill in Ocotlán, Jalisco on June 22nd.

For five years the environmental activists of the municipality and the region have pointed out the removal of geological material from that hill.

The Jonocoxtle community in Ocotlán was the victim of a landslide from a hill that is located between the limits of the furniture municipality and Tototlán.

Agustín Corona, director of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Ocotlán, reported that the waters that impacted the community were due to the removal of the geological material from the hill, however, he did not specify whether the removal of mineral material from the land was legal or not.

Agents of Civil Protection and Firefighters from Tototlán and the state came to the place to help clear the affected area and the houses where the water entered.

Agustín Corona reported that there was no record of people affected or injured, or material damage. For five years the environmental activists of the municipality and the region have pointed out the removal of geological material from the hills and even from protected natural areas such as Cerro Condiro Canales.
