The recovery of these pieces is added to other actions for the defense of the Mexican cultural heritage, such as complaints against auctions and the determination of pieces in possession of individuals

More than 30 archaeological pieces that were part of two private collections in Germany were voluntarily returned to Mexico and for this reason, they will travel to Mexico in the coming days to be registered and preserved at the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).

This morning, during the conference “Mexican diplomacy and the cultural heritage of Mexico: the voluntary return of Mexican cultural heritage in Germany”, authorities of the secretariats of Foreign and Cultural Relations announced the return made by citizens of Germany.

Alejandro Celorio, a legal consultant for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained that there are 34 pieces that are in an “optimal state of preservation” and that their recovery took place in Germany, last May, through the figure of “return voluntary of private collections ”.
