Dozens of women protested this Wednesday in Tlaxcala to demand justice for the femicide of Itzel Jasmín Cuamatzi, a 22-year-old nurse.
The women demonstrated in front of the State Government Palace with signs that read slogans such as “Not one less” and “no more femicides.”
A group of nurses also joined the demonstration.
The body of Itzel Jasmín was located on May 28, according to versions that her family spread on social networks, the young woman was found in a property of the community of San Felipe Cuauhtenco, municipality of Contla de Juan Cuamatzi, in the state of Tlaxcala.
Local media reported that Itzel was the mother of a 4-year-old girl.
Itzel Jasmín’s family called the demonstration on Wednesday, June 3rd, to demand that the authorities investigate the sentimental partner of the young nurse as responsible for the femicide. In fact, the suspect has already been detained by the Tlaxcala police.

Collective activist groups and users of social networks have joined the demand for justice through the hashtag #JusticiaparaItzel.
The Tlaxcala Prosecutor’s Office has initiated four investigation folders for the crime of femicide from January to April of this year, according to the most recent data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System. In addition, in the same period of time, local authorities have counted five women victims of intentional homicides.
