TULUM, MX.- Three people of foreign nationality were arrested today in an operation led by the National Institute of Migration, for carrying out economic activities without having permission to do so.

The operation carried out this afternoon in the center and coastal area of this municipal seat was very similar to those carried out in the past months in Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Personnel from this federal instance, escorted by the Navy, Quintana Roo Police, and the State Attorney General’s Office traveled various streets, to enter shops at random and request papers.

Two people in the coastal area could not present their proof of residence with permission to work, while one more was also arrested for this same situation in the central area.

The tourist area of Tulum has a high number of foreigners, not all of them regularized, often due to the difficulty of this process, in which they ask for the current tax situation of the company that wants to hire them, in addition to a minimum number of workers, which excludes many small businesses.
