Acámbaro, Guanajuato.- The candidate of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) for local representative for the XXII district, Sarahí Figueroa Ramírez, was attacked with stones in a campaign act and persecuted with bullets by three men in a rural area of the municipality of Acámbaro, near the state line with Michoacán.

The State Committee of the Green Party reported that the candidate and her team were unharmed from the attack, which occurred this Wednesday when Figueroa Ramírez and her team were conducting a political propaganda act in the San Mateo Tócuaro community.

Gerardo Fernández González, Elections Coordinator of the PVEM, pointed out that the attackers were detained by security agents of the State Government and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.

He explained that during the act that occurred on Wednesday afternoon, Sarahí Figueroa, her team and her assistants were verbally assaulted by people who later threw stones at them.

Faced with the aggression, the candidate and her brigade members decided to withdraw from the community; but when they got into their cars, they were pursued by the attackers.”

He said that men made detonations with firearms “directed at the vehicle in which our candidate was traveling,” fortunately, she is uninjured, as so are her collaborators.

He highlighted the immediate reaction of the state authorities in the arrest of the perpetrators of this violent attack.

However, he stressed that the lack of personnel in the Public Ministry agency of the State Attorney General’s Office prevented the candidate from immediately presenting the formal complaint in Acámbaro.

“We condemn this act and all the attacks that have been registered against candidates and citizens during the present electoral process,” said the PVEM leader.

He made a call for the state and federal security authorities to take action to guarantee the conclusion of the campaign process and the electoral day in a peaceful manner.
