Students, parents, and members of social organizations marched to the offices of the State Attorney General’s Office and with a banner, they warned “If there is no freedom, there will be no elections.”
Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.- Normalista students, parents, and members of social organizations protested outside the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), launched a publicity campaign in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and hijacked the San Cristóbal de las Casas-Ocosingo-Palenque highway, in demand for the unconditional release of students from the Mactumactzá Rural Normal School.
The protesters went to the offices of the Attorney General, in the north of the city and with a banner, they warned: “If there is no freedom, there will be no elections.”
One of the parents said that these young prisoners “only dream of preparing and having a better society, but that in our country is a crime; our children are not criminals, they were arrested just for asking that things be done in the better way if our requests are not solved immediately, this is going to get worse ”, he warned.
A judge issued preventive detention for the youths and ordered their confinement in the El Amate penitentiary, in the municipality of Cintalapa. The defendants face the crimes of mutiny, gang activity, robbery with violence, attacks against the peace and bodily and patrimonial integrity of the community and the state, and damages.
On the day for the liberation, Mactumatzá convened this Saturday a campaign to disseminate the case in six points of Tuxtla Gutiérrez and in the neighboring municipalities of Berriozábal, San Fernando, and Chiapa de Corzo.
About 300 protesters, including students from the Ayotzinapa school, gathered this Saturday afternoon in front of the headquarters of the Attorney General’s Office. “We are tired of the atrocities that are done against our colleagues,” said one of the participants.
Another student from Guerrero said that “Ayotzinapa will be in Chiapas until our comrades from the Mactumactzá are released because we don’t want what happened with our 43 comrades to happen here
In another action, parents, teachers, and students from normal schools blocked the San Cristóbal de las Casas-Ocosingo-Palenque highway to demand the release of those from Mactumatzá.
The protesters also demanded the release of two displaced indigenous people from the Chenalhó municipality who expressed solidarity with the normalistas, participated in the blockade, and are imprisoned in El Amate.
They said that the normalistas were arrested when they hijacked the toll booths on the San Cristóbal de las Casas-Tuxtla Gutiérrez toll road.
This, they added, due to the State’s failure to comply with agreements reached at various working groups that have been carried out between the parties.
Riot police detained 95 protesters on May 18. Initially, the Attorney General’s Office reported that on Thursday it issued preventive detention and detained 93 students from the Mactumatzá Rural Normal School in the El Amate prison.
In recent hours, sources from that agency specified that they are 91 accused normalistas and 2 displaced adults from Chenalhó who participated in the demonstration that day, in addition to two minors from that municipality.
The court of Control, Oral Trial, and Execution specialized in Justice for adolescents later released the two minors and imposed precautionary measures so that on Saturdays every 15 days they must go to sign before a court in San Cristóbal de las Casas.
