Mazatlan health authorities assure that the crew of an oil tanker that tested positive for the variant remain isolated and in full recovery.

“The two crew members infected with the Indian strain of COVID-19 who were aboard the oil tanker M / T Sti Garnet that docked in Mazatlan remain isolated and in full recovery,” said the director of Prevention and Health Promotion state.

Cristhian Aldo Muñoz Madrid announced that, when the ship arrived at the port, International Health personnel validated that seven crew members had symptoms of COVID-19, and with new laboratory tests it was confirmed that two of them were carriers of the Indian variant.

The oil vessel with 27 crew members came from the port of Lázaro Cardenas, Michoacán, with a log of previous trips abroad.

The official also commented that the oil tanker has been at anchor since May 2, quarantined outside the port of Mazatlán.

He stressed that thanks to the timely intervention of the state and federal authorities, the immediate attention of the ship’s crew was achieved so that they will shortly be subjected to laboratory tests to determine if they are no longer carriers of the virus.
