Fausto Gael Carrasco Echeverría, a boy from San Mateo del Mar, Ikoots municipality on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in the state of Oaxaca, donated the prize he won to his Adolfo López Mateo Bilingual Primary School, which consisted of a complete library worth 50 thousand pesos.
In November 2020, Fausto Gael won first place in the 2020 Casa Infantil de Cuento contest, but he just recently received the batch of books.
According to the Friends of IAGO association, the Manuel Álvarez Bravo A.C Photographic Center, and the San Agustín Arts Center (CaSa), Fausto has already received his award with which he will contribute to the bibliographic heritage of his hometown San Mateo del Mar.
With the story “Mitiüüd nine Lil” (The path of the little chameleon), written in ombeayiüts -his mother tongue-, Fausto won first place in the 2020 Casa Infantil de Cuento contest organized by the Centro de las Artesa San Agustín (CaSa ).

“Mitiüüd nine Lil” (The path of the little chameleon) “is a story that portrays the life of a chameleon that goes in search of its mother, but during its journey, it meets a snake and crocodile, so it decides to change its colors to avoid the predators, learning the important skills of survival.
The boy from the ikoots community is the son of an elementary school teacher and the grandson of a bilingual teacher, so from a very young age, he learned the Huave language.
It was in July 2020 when the first call for the CaSa Infantil de Cuento Awards was held, in which children from seven to eleven years old, inhabitants of the state of Oaxaca, and speakers of Zapotec, Mixtec, Triqui, ombeayiüts, Mixe, Chatino, Chinanteco, and Mazatec in any of its variants, were invited to write a story in their own language.
At that time it was announced that the first place would obtain a package of books with a value of 50 thousand pesos that will be delivered to the library, school, or public space designated by the winner. This was the main reason why Fausto decided to participate in the contest.
The call for the CaSa Children’s Short Story Award has the aim of promoting literary creation in native languages in girls and boys in the state of Oaxaca.
