The Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) considered that despite the restart of activities, tourism in CDMX has a slow recovery.
Armando Zúñiga, president of Coparmex, indicated that in the economic part of the capital units, the pandemic was not contained.
Likewise, he pointed out that in CDMX more than 90 percent are small and medium-sized companies, which makes the recovery slower.
He also explained that the recovery of tourism is slow, as there are low levels of hotel occupancy and few visitors.
The tourism sector in CDMX employed millions of residents of the capital, and although the return of office workers has already occurred, activity is still low.
For his part, Armando Culebro, president of the Coparmex Tourism Commission, assured that more financial aid is needed for companies.
“Although since the beginning of the Covid pandemic there was great support from banking institutions that deferred payments for three months, it is not enough,” he said.
He clarified that the reactivation of tourism in CDMX has not yet arrived, so support from second-tier banks is needed for all companies in the industry.
He added that, as long as the Covid-19 pandemic continues, tourism MSMEs will need help to get out of the economic crisis.
According to data from the Sectur, about 290 thousand jobs were lost in tourism due to the pandemic during 2020.
