The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that travelers fully vaccinated against Covid-19 no longer need to wear masks or physically distance themselves both indoors and outdoors.
Updated CDC guidelines stipulate that while vaccinated travelers are no longer required to wear face coverings, even fully vaccinated people may be required to wear masks in certain locations, such as in hospitals or other healthcare settings.
“Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physically distancing themselves,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.
The CDC also recommends that people who have compromised immune systems and other medical problems should speak with their doctors about continuing with mitigation measures, which were originally implemented to combat the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
In April, the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people can safely travel within the United States and that they will no longer be required to wear face shields outdoors.
The agency also revealed that vaccinated Americans would no longer need to be tested before or after the trip, unless they are required for the destination.
In early May, AAA Travel revealed that an estimated 37 million Americans take a vacation trip over the Memorial holiday weekend, a 60 percent increase from last year.
