The Ministry of Health reported that in the last 24 hours there was a record of 2,846 new cases and 166 new deaths

The Ministry of Health reported that there were 166 new deaths caused by the COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 218,173 deaths have been registered since the beginning of the health emergency.

According to the data in the written technical report, in the last 24 hours, there was a record of 2,846 new cases, with which there is a total of 2,358,831 confirmed infections accumulated since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, there are also 1,879,713 people who have recovered and obtained medical discharge after having treated the symptoms. In addition to 8,790,655 cases in which men and women have received the complete immunization schedule against the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the country.

On the fifth day of epidemiological week number 16, the existence of 2,545,817 estimated cases was estimated. On the other hand, 21,224 people (1%) have presented symptoms in the last 14 days, for which they are considered active cases and can contribute to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus among the rest of the population.

Mexico City is the entity with the highest number of active cases (> 3,000 cases), followed by the State of Mexico and Tabasco as the entities with more than 1,000 active cases, concentrating 44% of the active cases in the country.

“ For the first time during the entire pandemic we went to a yellow traffic light , derived from the continuous improvements from the second week of January to date. According to the traffic light of the Government of Mexico we were notified that we have already fulfilled the conditions to go to yellow ”. Clark Garcia said at noon.

By calculating the estimated active cases (most suspected active cases with a start date of the last 14 days by the positivity index, by entity and epidemiological week), Mexico City is the entity with the highest number of estimated active cases (> 3,000 cases). At the national level, an estimated 21,224 active cases are calculated.

Regarding hospital saturation, Dr. José Luis Alomía Zegarra, Director General of Epidemiology, reported that the national figure is 82 points below the historical maximum recorded.

Regarding general beds nationwide, the authorities confirmed the occupancy at 11 percent, an amount located at the same level as that registered on May 5, 2021. In fact, the hospitalization figure does not exceed five thousand patients in the heading.

On the other hand, in beds equipped with ventilation support, that is, for the care of intensive therapy patients, it was confirmed that the national occupancy is at 16 percent. This statistic decreased one point with respect to what was reported until yesterday and the hospitalization of about 2,500 people throughout the national territory is estimated.

Until today, the contagion graph has maintained a downward trend. Therefore, in case of maintaining the trend of reducing infections next Saturday, we could reach 16 consecutive weeks. In this sense, Dr. Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, assured that “We have practically been reducing the epidemic for four months.”

Vaccination

Dr. López-Gatell assured that yesterday 604,065 doses were placed throughout the country, an amount that was positioned as the historical maximum registered in one day since the start of the campaign. Thus, since December 24, 2020, when the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was applied, a cumulative 19,951,121 injections have been applied.

The repertoire of biologicals in Mexico is made up of five developed by Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, SinoVac, Centro Gamaleya and Cansino Bio. In its use, only 17,509 events supposedly attributable to vaccination and immunization (ESAVI) have been reported, of which 310 cases have been serious. The figure represents less than 1% of the people who have been inoculated, so they are safe vaccines.
