New Mazatlán Aquarium, the largest in Latin America

In a strategy to streamline economic operations, Mazatlán is committed to tourism through the launch of an attractive star: the largest aquarium in Latin America.

Faced with the economic turbulence left by the health contingency, Mazatlán accelerates engines to boost economic reactivation with strong growth bets. Local, national and foreign investors maintain confidence in the city of Sinaloa, where the gestation of large-scale projects is increasing.

In different parts of the city, there are important projects under development, among them the realization of 10 hotels and nine that recently started operations with a total of 2,890 new rooms, among which the new Dreams Resorts stands out, with an investment of 70 million dollars. (mdd) within the ‘Estrella del Mar’ golf club -to the south of the city with an area of ​​374 hectares and about six kilometers of beach.

In the Golden Zone, the construction of hotels such as Conrad Marriott advances, with an investment of 44 million dollars; the ONE and Fiesta Inn hotels, with a shopping plaza and an investment of $ 37.5 million. In addition, Grupo Pueblo Bonito invested 27 million dollars for the recent reopening of its emblematic Pueblo Bonito Mazatlán hotel, while Estelhare will invest 45 million dollars in two mirror towers on the boardwalk, where the development of more than 500 new condominiums is also in process.

Recently, they opened a modern soccer stadium for 21,000 spectators, home of Mazatlán FC, their new first division team.

A bright city, this is how Mazatlán can be identified, since they have installed more than 8,000 LED luminaires of unique design in the world, which make their newly remodeled avenues with wide walkways and bike paths look spectacular.

One of the main messages of Mazatlán is that, in pursuit of economic reactivation, this diversification represents one of the largest expressions for the city, an example of this is the creation of the MZT Aerospace Park, with 195 hectares and a capital of 150 million dollars.

In this sense, the development of large investments promotes the creation of tourist products with international quality for national and foreign visitors. Thus, the construction of the New Mazatlán Aquarium began, which will be the largest in Latin America and will be dedicated to the Sea of ​​Cortez. 

Located within Central Park, the New Mazatlán Aquarium will have an area of ​​50,000 m2 and an investment of more than 70 million dollars, defining as its main objectives: research, education and dissemination of knowledge through a foundation and the Life Research Center Marina, which will work on four lines: 

  • Animal welfare
  • Resilience and climate change
  • Ocean health and the blue economy 
  • Ocean: inspiring and fascinating

The spectacular three-level building will feature 19 showrooms and four interior courtyards. The most important exhibits will be the oceanic fish tank, which will contain 2.5 million liters of water with an acrylic window 6 meters high by 12 meters in front, and a coral tank with 7 meters in diameter and 5 meters high.

The aquarium will have almost 5 million liters in exhibition fish tanks and 200 million liters in a large lake, whose management plan will be the responsibility of the biologists of the Agency’s Research Center.

For the equipment of the New Mazatlan Aquarium, companies with international experience were selected, among them: MAT from Turkey, for life support equipment; Nippura, from Japan, for the manufacture and installation of acrylics; Plabesa, from Portugal, for tempered glass and aluminum; the French CITELUM, for air conditioning and lighting systems.

In total, 27 local, six international and 34 national companies work in the project under the general supervision of Kingu Mexicana. The construction is in charge of the Sinaloan firm, Meprosa Construcciones, while the architectural direction corresponds to Tatiana Bilbao Estudio.
