Production of the Jetta will be halted from May 3-19, while the Tiguan SUV will be halted from May 6 to 16.
Volkswagen de Mexico will suspend production of Jetta models in Mexico for two weeks next month and will pause assembly of Tiguan trucks for 11 days due to a global shortage of semiconductors, the company reported Monday, April 26th.
Production of the Jetta will be halted from May 3-19, while that of the Tiguan will be halted from May 6-16.
Volkswagen said in a statement that presumably the chip supply will remain difficult in the coming months.
The shortage has already forced Ford to assemble the F-150 pickups without some of the on-board computers. The trucks will be kept in the factories for several weeks and shipped to dealers once the computers are available and quality checks are done.
The global shortage of semiconductors forced Honda and Toyota to announce production cuts at some North American factories. General Motors has also been forced to build trucks without some of the computers and to install them later.
