World Travel & Tourism Council Global Summit 2021 kicks off in Cancun

Cancun celebrates the first major world tourism event in more than 12 months.

With all the safety and hygiene protocols and antigen testing for the participants, the Moon Palace Hotel in Cancun received more than 600 guests at the WTTC World Summit, the first major event in the sector, after more than a year of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the slogan “Uniting the World for Recovery”, this event according to Gloria Guevara, president and CEO of the WTTC, will be the ideal platform to promote the recovery of the sector, negatively impacted by the effects of the health emergency.

During a previous press conference, Guevara Manzo thanked the Government of Quintana Roo at the head of Carlos Joaquín González for hosting this global meeting, which will be taking place until April 27, which will reveal and demonstrate they can do things well, under strict biosafety standards to protect the health of all participants, ”said Guevara Manzo.

“Here in Cancun the process of recovery of the travel and tourism sector begins,” she said, at the same time that she noted that the Summit will be attended by representatives of the sector from 20 nations.

She emphasized that there is great confidence in Quintana Roo, one of the first destinations in the world, to receive the “Safe Travel Stamp” for the application of hygiene and sanitation protocols.

The governor of Quintana Roo, during the meeting with the media, pointed out that the summit will be a great event that will generate significant investment and tourism promotion since it will put the Mexican Caribbean in the eyes of the whole world. Likewise, he welcomed the international delegates who attended this first great face-to-face meeting of the travel and tourism sector.

During the three days of work, the Moon Palace Convention Center will be home to more than 600 participants, however, this congress under its hybrid format will be reaching more than 30 thousand participants remotely.

Guevara Manzo pointed out that the participation of Juan Manuel Santos, former president of Colombia and 2016 Nobel Peace Prize winner, and the prominent professional tennis player Martina Navratilova, as well as more than 100 high-level international speakers and industry leaders, has been confirmed. public, led by more than 20 ministerial delegations from Saudi Arabia, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Panama, and the Dominican Republic, among others.

As Guevara has been saying, the summit will be the platform for the global recovery of the travel industry, so it will mark the way for the recovery of 100 million jobs in this sector, which has been severely hit by the pandemic.

During the WTTC World Summit, various initiatives related to the travel and tourism sector will also be presented in terms of sustainability, digital agenda, social impact, and empowerment of women in the sector (Women in Global Travel), with great impact on equity of genre.
