OAXACA,April 20, 2021.- The Oaxaca Textile Museum celebrated its 13th anniversary with the purpose of disseminating and preserving the designs, techniques, and creative processes of the communities that have given identity to the original peoples of Oaxaca and the world.
Among the founders of this space are the teacher Francisco Toledo, the doctor María Isabel Grañén Porrúa, the businessman Alfredo Harp Helú and the teacher Alejandro de Ávila.
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic since last May 2020, the museum closed its doors to take care of the life and health of both visitors and its staff.
That is why on this thirteenth anniversary, still in a health emergency, the conditions to celebrate it did not exist, but without a doubt, its activities will once again be an important means of knowing and learning about the great variety of textiles.
One of its founders, Dr. Isabel Grañén Porrúa thanked on her Twitter account those who made this incredible dream come true, 13 years of exalting the talent of those who are dedicated to textiles and learning the art of threads.
In a complex and dynamic setting like this one, the Oaxaca Textile Museum online store has been created to promote, preserve and disseminate the creativity, talent, and skill of the creators of textile art in Oaxaca while promoting the manufacture of quality fabrics for the direct benefit of family workshops, cooperatives, and workgroups, that is, it promotes fair trade.
The Textile Museum of Oaxaca is located on the property that was part of the orchard of the old convent of Santo Domingo Soriano, the second Dominican foundation in America, established in the year 1529, later dedicated to Saint Paul, where they received preaching in Nahuatl, Zapotec, and Mixtec the indigenous neighbors of the city.
