Soriana wants to continue with its omnichannel strategy and has teamed up with Mercado Libre to boost its online sales.

The store will have a presence in the Mercado Libre Marketplace with the categories of personal care, wellness, pets, garden, food and beverages, beauty, and home.

Rafael Castellort, director of Electronic Commerce of Soriana, said at a press conference that the retail store wants to give a “big boost to online sales” with 10,000 products that will be in the catalog.

“For Soriana it is a commitment and as part of the omnichannel strategy is to be able to offer our customers different channels and different ways of buying and interacting with us,” said Castellort.

Mercado Libre alliance with Soriana

Soriana’s products will be stored in Mercado Libre’s warehouses and delivery logistics will be 24 hours, Rafael explained.

Retail expects online sales to double by the end of 2021 . Currently they had a growth of 8 times more than last year.

Soriana will also receive payments with Mercado Pago de Mercado Libre

In addition, the strategy will not be limited to the Marketplace, Soriana will also allow payments with QR codes and the Mercado Pago wallet, which is why it has trained its ATMs to accept this new form of payment.

“Mercado Pago users will be able to buy their super in our physical stores, through QR codes and their wallet. This alliance is not only to buy the supermarket, but it is a more strategic alliance to reach more consumers, “said Castellort.

Soriana would be the first retailer to accept Mercado Pago payments in all the chain’s stores, so they will offer benefits such as discounts of 80 pesos for every 400, to promote this form of payment.

Latin America the region that grew the most in electronic commerce

For his part, David Díaz Trujillo, director of Mercado Libre’s mass consumption vertical, assured that the Supermarkets category was one of the most accelerated in online shopping.

According to data from the Mexican Online Sales Association (AMVO), “the category grew 40% compared to last year” and Mercado Libre maintains that it could have a growth of more than 2,200 million dollars in 2024.

“We are on an accelerating trend, clearly the supermarket category is an important focus for e-commerce. And no less data is that Latin America, in general, is the region with the highest growth in electronic commerce in the world, “said Díaz.
