Querétaro recovers 87% of jobs lost after the pandemic

During the first quarter of the year, the state adds 15,605 new jobs registered with the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).

Querétaro, Qro. During the first quarter of the year, the state adds 15,605 new jobs registered with the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).

Among the jobs accumulated this year, 60.4% are permanent positions, while the rest, 39.5% are temporary.

In relation to the job losses and discharges reported in the framework of the Covid-19 pandemic, from February (when the state began to report job losses) to July 2020, the entity lost 34,636 jobs; while from August 2020 to March 2021, 30,152 have been recovered, that is, 87% of those discharged in the reference period have been recovered.

Compared to the jobs lost from March to July of last year, during the confinement, the drop in that period was 30,829 jobs; that is, taking this reference period, the recovery until March is 97.8 percent.

After the period of confinement, from August 2020 to March 2021, the entity has recovered 30,152 temporary positions: 62.9% permanent and 37.1% temporary.

Since March 2020, when the confinement period begins, to March of this year, the sector that has added the most jobs is services for companies, people and the home (5,912), followed by the construction industry ( 2,795). Other sectors that have added jobs after one year are primary activities (310), social and community services (301) and extractive industries (95).

In contrast, those that still show negative variations are the transformation industry (-3,833), commerce (3,408), transportation and communications (-1,399) and the electricity industry, collection and supply of drinking water (-96).

Among the 611,101 formal jobs reported to the IMSS, at the end of March, the sector with the highest contribution to jobs is the transformation industry, which contributes 36.7%; followed by services for companies, individuals and households with 19.7% and the commerce sector with 16.1%.

With the lowest contribution, social and community services are listed, which contribute 9.3%, construction 8.2%, transportation and communications 5.6%, primary activities 3.5%, electrical industry, collection and supply of drinking water 0.5% and electrical industry 0.3 percent.
