RIU Hotels will resume the development of its project in Punta Nizuc as soon as possible, after receiving a new ruling in its favor, which endorses this work and rejects the protection presented by Promotora Nizuc.

The eighteenth collegiate court in administrative matters, based in Mexico City, issued a ruling confirming that the project of the Spanish hotel chain does not represent a risk to the ecosystem.

“The evidence provided and valued generates the conviction that there is no coastal dune formation on the property where the project will be carried out … There is no lack of protection of the environment or uncertainty about the risk of environmental damage or the possible repercussions to the ecosystem”, it was stated read in the document issued by the judicial authority.

The foregoing is the result of the litigation generated by the accusations of Promotora Nizuc SA de CV that it operates a hotel next to the RIU property, which it presented through an Amparo, which was again rejected.

The hotel company reiterated that its project in Punta Nizuc is endorsed by the RIU Hotels Environmental Impact Statement, valid until May 2022.

With this new ruling, RIU receives recognition for the implementation of sustainable and environmental measures that include water-saving, waste management, emission reduction, and in this case, with greater emphasis, protection of wildlife.

The restart of the development of this project and the investments in it will allow the generation of more than a thousand jobs, highlighting the Spanish chain.
