Andrés Manuel López Obrador declared that they are working to reduce fuel theft and smuggling throughout the country.

About the recent findings of clandestine intakes in Ecatepec and Mexico City, AMLO said, “caused great concern about the danger they pose, because a strong smell of fuel began to be felt in the area and with a high degree of explosiveness”. Stolen gasoline tanks were found inside a property and the authorities are already proceeding legally.

He called on the population not to return to the practice of huachicoleo because the government will expropriate the land or warehouses that are used for this serious crime.

At a press conference, the national coordinator of Civil Protection, Laura Velázquez, explained that on the night of March 29, an event “one of the most relevant that has put the population at risk” of the capital and that part of the metropolitan area with an explosive rate of 70 percent, which required the urgent intervention of various agencies of the three levels of government to protect the population and detect the leakage points (later it would be known that there are at least eight clandestine intakes in that area), which have already been closed.

Javier González del Villar, director of Pemex Logística, reported on the work to detect each irregularity in the Tuxpan-Azcapozalco section, where properties were used as illicit fuel storage centers, which were expropriated, via the domain extinction law.

The President declared that the illicit will soon be controlled, not only in pipelines but also in ports and customs. He recalled that at the beginning of the six-year term the theft was 81 thousand barrels a day and now it has come down to 5 thousand.
