The percentage of active cases continues at 1%, which is equivalent to 25,855 patients who have presented symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 14 days

Mexico reported 596 new deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours to accumulate a total of 205,598 deaths from the disease, the Ministry of Health reported this Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

In addition, the health authorities reported 5,499 new infections, which adds up to a cumulative 2,261,879 confirmed cases .

However, it should be remembered that the official death toll could be much higher, since on March 28 the federal government itself reported in its most up-to-date report on the “excess mortality” that the country had registered 294,287 deaths associated with COVID until February 13, after studying death certificates, with which Mexico would exceed 300,000 deaths from coronavirus.

During the usual conference to report on the progress of the pandemic in the country, José Luis Alomía, director of Epidemiology, indicated that as part of the downward trend that has been maintained in the Mexican Republic since January of this year, the percentage of Active cases continue at 1%, which is equivalent to 25,855 patients who have presented symptoms of the disease in the last 14 days (March 25 to April 7, 2021).

Despite this downward trend, specialists and the same authorities already predict that Mexico is about to once again experience difficult days in the health battle for vacationers who took a break during Holy Week and the variants of COVID-19: even a worse scenario than the one that there was in December and that could lead to new restrictions to face a possible third wave.

However, according to the technical document, Mexico City is still the entity with the highest number of active cases (more than 3,000 cases), followed by the State of Mexico (more than 1,000); both concentrate 48% of the active cases in the country. In contrast, Nayarit, Chiapas, Colima, and Campeche are the states with the lowest number of active cases, with 95, 77, 74, and 72, respectively.

The foregoing is still reflected in the colors of the epidemiological traffic light that has been in force since last Monday and will be in force until April 11, where no state is in ” red ” (maximum risk of contagion); In the color “ green ” (low risk) there are seven entities: Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Jalisco, Nayarit, Chiapas, and Campeche.

In “ yellow ” (moderate risk) 18 entities: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, Durango, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, Colima, Aguascalientes, Michoacán, Guerrero, Nuevo León, Tlaxcala, Quintana Roo, Guanajuato, Oaxaca, Morelos and Tabasco; while in “ orange ” (high risk) seven remain: Mexico City, State of Mexico, Puebla, Querétaro, Yucatán, Hidalgo and Chihuahua.

COVID-19 Hospitalizations

Of the 31,137 general beds for coronavirus patients requiring hospital care, 5,464 (18%) are occupied nationwide. According to the health agency, 32 states register an occupancy below 30%.

Meanwhile, of the 10,897 beds with mechanical ventilators for the most critical COVID-19 patients, 2,343 (22%) are occupied in the country.

The Secretariat reported that four states in the country have an occupancy between 30% and 49%: Mexico City, Querétaro, Tabasco and Chihuahua; the rest concentrate less than those percentages.

In contrast, 1,798,657 people have recovered from the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus since it reached the national territory.

National Vaccination Plan

Until the cut-off at 4:00 p.m. (Central Mexico time), the health authorities applied 314,666 injections this Tuesday . Regarding the total number of doses applied, this amounts to 10,089,420.

However, from December 2020 to date, only 1,472,382 Mexicans have received the two doses necessary to achieve immunity with the vaccines used in Mexico.

Of this total, 693,799 members of the health personnel in the country have received the complete scheme. Among the elderly, the two doses have been applied to 760,957 people, while among the educational personnel in Campeche there are 17,626.
