Older adults in Cozumel and Chetumal were left without the opportunity to be vaccinated against the pandemic

Quintana Roo older adults are left without COVID vaccines due to an “error” by the federal government headed by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which decided to send the drug to Campeche.

In fact, in Chetumal, it was planned that on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 April they would reopen three vaccination modules for older adults who did not reach vaccines against COVID. In addition, in Cozumel, the arrival of the antigen was also expected.....

Around 8:00 p.m. on April 1, Mario Villanueva Prospera, director of the hospital of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) in the island confirmed the cancellation of the vaccination day in that municipality.

He said the vaccines did not arrive at the Cancun International Airport from where they would be distributed to the island.

Faced with this “logistics error”, the federal health authorities decided that the package should be sent to the state of Campeche, so the vaccination day that was planned for tomorrow, Saturday, April 2, was canceled until further notice.

Although he could not specify the total number of doses that no longer reached Cozumel, Mario Villanueva explained that only for the ISSSTE hospital they expected to receive 700 servings.

Around 5:00 p.m., Campeche time, the media in that state reported the arrival of 3,510 doses destined for the elderly of that entity, medical personnel, and teachers.

In an extra-official way, it was learned that the immunizers were applied on Monday, April 5 and that they were the ones that were destined for Quintana Roo.
